Colleen was truly sorry for being rude. (truly describes the adjective sorry)
Next time she spoke very sweetly to me. (very describes the adverb sweetly)

When?
Where?
How?
Why?
Under what condition?
To what degree?

When adverbs are used to modify adjectives or other adverbs they intensify or limit the intensity of the word they modify.
