Tweedledum and Tweedledead

“Tweedledum and Tweedledead”: Compare this story with “Summer Reading is Killing Me.” How is it similar? How is it different? What representation of childhood is portrayed in this story? Is it realistic or not?

“Tweedledum and Tweedledead” is only somewhat similar to “Summer Reading is Killing Me” because they both have references to popular Disney and other children’s characters. They involve the names and characters in the story someway. What is different about “Tweedledum and Tweedledead” is that the story is about a kid named Tobias who is instructed to write a story about his summer vacation; however he comes up with this crazy, eventful story full of all kinds of kid’s stories characters. Tobias uses characters like Alice, from Alice in Wonderland, Winnie the Pooh, Wilbur from Charlotte’s Web, and the Cat in the Hat.  The representation of childhood portrayed in this story is the idea of adventure and fantasy, like we talked about the past couple of weeks. Children like big events and memorable times. They like t play make believe and that is what his story is all about. It’s unfortunate that the teacher couldn’t appreciate his ability to be creative and write stories!
