Summer Reading is Killing Me
Summer Reading is Killing Me: Intertextuality takes place when there is an allusion or reference in a text to something from another story. For example, the mention of a red hooded cloak would be an intertextual reference to “Little Red Riding Hood.” Why is this story by Jon Sciezska engaging for young readers? Or, if you don’t think it is, why not? What makes this a good example of fantasy for children?
This story is fun because it’s a different and creative story. It’s different but children can still relate because it refers and uses other characters from other kids stories as part of this story. Some of these books and characters mentioned are Green Eggs and Ham, Peter Rabbit, Twilight Zone, the Frog and Toad, Mary Poppins, and the Gingerbread Man. This story is fantasy because a child can’t really jump from book to the next and interact in real life with the characters from each book. It’s fun to pretend I suppose.
